This Oris Dive Watch Is A Tribute To The Great Barrier Reef

Limited to just 2,000 pieces.

The finest luxury dive watches on the planet are made to scale great depths, but the latest Oris dive watch serves a higher purpose: A tribute and a charitable effort benefiting the ocean itself. More specifically, the new Oris  Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV supports restoration efforts for its namesake, while at the same time delivering rugged utility.

Working with Australian non-profit the Reef Restoration Foundation, the vaunted Swiss watchmaker is paying homage to the ecological wonder in matters of both design and charitable efforts. Sales of the limited-edition watch (numbering just 2,000 covetable units) will go toward the foundation’s coral tree-planting efforts, and it doesn’t hurt that the timepiece is also a stylish wrist game upgrade. Of course, the timepiece is a change of pace from other Oris models, like the company’s first-ever 3D-printed watch, a 2022 novelty

In matters of vivid good looks, the timepiece draws direct inspiration from the ocean deep, boasting a gradient dial that “captures both the turquoise and blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef from the air and also the refraction of the sun’s rays through water,” the watchmaker said. Oris also notes that the gradient falls vertically from the dial’s 12-o’clock marker, a rarity for the timepiece company.

Oris notes that the grey tungsten bezel insert adds durability, while the rarity of the watch is on full display via a numbered and engraved caseback celebrating the famed coral reef. The company’s precise, in-house automatic movement (the Calibre 400) powers the watch from within, boasting a five-day power reserve and elevated everyday anti-magnetism.

300 meters of water resistance and a sturdy stainless steel case bolster the 43.5mm watch, which builds off the company’s Aquis Date model for what the watchmaker calls a “refined, modern, versatile tool watch.” Priced at $4,500, the newest Oris dive watch is delivered in a fitting, sustainable watch box and comes complete with a digital certificate. Consider it a fine, stylish and functional way to support the wonders of the ocean, quite literally.
